    Testicular Cancer
    By: Brandon Fawkes
    What is Testicular Cancer?
Cancer starts when cells in the body begin to grow out of control. Cells in nearly any part of the body can become cancer, and can spread to other areas of the body. In regards to Testicular cancer It’s exactly what it sounds like: cancer of the testicles so luckily for you ladies it can’t affect you.
    Quick Facts:
Testicular cancer is a disease when testicular cells become abnormal malignant in one or both testicles. It is the most common cancer in 20- to 35-year-old men and has two main types, seminomas and nonseminomas.
The exact cause of testicular cancer is not known but risk factors include undescended testicles, congenital abnormalities, kidney, penile abnormalities, and history of testicular cancer: for example, family history or personal history of testicular cancer in one testicle and being white.
Testicular cancer is often first detected by the patient discovering a lump or swelling in a testicle; other symptoms include testicular pain or discomfort; testicular enlargement; aches in the abdomen, back, or groin; or a fluid collection in the scrotum.
Testicular cancer has four stages, ranging from 0 to III. (Stage III is the most advanced cancer stage.) Some stages have sub-stages (for example, stages IA and IB) based on where the testicular cancer has spread.

    Tumor Types:
More than 90% of cancers of the testicle develop in special cells known as germ cells. These are the cells that make sperm. The 2 main types of germ cell tumors (GCTs) in men are:
    Seminomas
Non-seminomas, which are made up of embryonal carcinoma, yolk sac carcinoma, choriocarcinoma, and/or teratoma
Based on what cells the tumors are in dictates which form of Testicular Cancer you have.
However most cases contain BOTH of these cells so they are treated as “non-seminomas” overall.
    Seminomas
tend to grow and spread more slowly than non-seminomas. The 2 main subtypes of these tumors are classical (or typical) seminomas and spermatocytic seminomas.
Classical seminoma: More than 95% of seminomas are classical. These usually occur in men between 25 and 45.
Spermatocytic seminoma: This rare type of seminoma tends to occur in older men. The average age of men diagnosed with spermatocytic seminoma is about 65. Spermatocytic tumors tend to grow more slowly and are less likely to spread to other parts of the body than classical seminomas.

    Non Seminomas
These types of germ cell tumors usually occur in men between their late teens and early 30s. The 4 main types of non-seminoma tumors are:
Embryonal carcinoma: NOT GOOD, 40% of cases and can spread out.
Yolk sac carcinoma: Looks like a yolk sack, typically only found in children (most common)
Choriocarcinoma: Very bad, its more then likely going to spread.
    Teratoma: Very rare form.
Most tumors are a mix of different types (sometimes with a seminoma component as well), but this doesn’t change the general approach to treatment of most non-seminoma cancers.
    Treatments:
Surgery: Inguinal orchiectomy and Retroperitoneal lymph node dissection
Medications: Chemotherapy and Hormone therapy, prescription needed
    Medical procedure: Radiation therapy
Specialists: Oncologist, Primary care provider (PCP), Urologist, Radiation oncologist, and Surgeon

For communication, your mission is to teach us about how another population inter act with each other. Examples:
Pick a country ( Germany, India, Spain, Mexico) and share the customs of how to greet someone, hand gestures, dating practices. Should I visit the country how do I make sure I am not offensive to the people. OR you can choose people who are blind, hearing impaired, autistic, chair bound, how do you communicate with them? After the presentation, students should be more comfortable when communicating with these diverse groups and have an appreciation of the culture.

    What is noise pollution ?
noise pollution takes place when there is either excessive amount of noise or an unpleasant sound that causes temporary disruption in the natural balance.
Basically- It's when there's too much noise going on that may be disrupting from daily activities.
    Causes:
    (According to Conserve-Energy.com)
    1. Industrialization: Most of the industries use big machines which are capable of producing large amount of noise. Apart from that, various equipment like compressors, generators, exhaust fans, grinding mills also participate in producing big noise.
    2. Poor Urban Planning: In most of the developing countries, poor urban planning also play a vital role. Congested houses, large families sharing small space, fight over parking, frequent fights over basic amenities leads to noise pollution which may disrupt the environment of society.
    3. Social Events: Noise is at its peak in most of the social events. Whether it is wedding, parties, pubs, clubs or place of worship, people normally create nuisance in the area.
    4. Transportation: Large number of vehicles on roads, airplanes flying over houses, underground trains produce heavy noise and people make it difficult to get accustomed to that. The high noise leads to a situation where a normal person loses the ability to hear properly.
    5. Construction Activities: Under construction activities like mining, construction of bridges, dams, buildings, stations, roads, flyovers. These construction activities take place everyday causing your ears to be exposed to high volumes daily.
    6. Household Chores: Devices like TV's, phones , vacuum cleaners , washing machine and, air conditioners are minor contributors to the amount of noise that is produced but it affects the quality of life of your neighborhood.
    Effects of noise pollution:
Hearing problems- The immediate and acute effect of noise pollution to a person, over a period of time, is impairment of hearing. Prolonged exposure to impulsive noise to a person will damage their eardrum, which may result in a permanent hearing impairment
Health Issues- Health effects of noise include anxiety and stress reaction and in extreme cases fright. The physiological manifestations are headaches, irritability and nervousness, feeling of fatigue and decreases work efficiency
Problems with sleeping- Being exposed to disruptive noises all night can significantly affect the quality of rest that one gets during sleep. Affecting the mood, and stress that a person may experience in their every day life.
Trouble communicating- It is often difficult to effectively communicate with another person while there is a lot of noise going on around. Causing External interference.
Effect on wildlife- Hearing loss and rapid increase in heart rate are some of the ill-effects of noise pollution on animals. High intensity sound induces fear, which can force species to abandon their habitat.

    How to reduce noise pollution:
Turn off electronics: computers, game systems, televisions make noise when they’re not in use—whether it’s a fan spinning or that high-pitched, barely-audible screech some TVs make. Over time, all of these sounds cause stress on the ears. Turn them off when you are not using them. As a bonus, you’ll save some money on electricity.
Sound-proof your space: There are a lot of things you can do to sound-proof your home such as...
If you have hard floors, rugs will go a long way in the fight to dampen sound.
Windows are a known weak point in many structures. Installing better windows, sealing window frames, or hanging curtains (even thin ones) will help reduce the sound coming from outside.
If you have noisy neighbors on one side of you, put furniture or a big bookshelf (preferably full of books) against that wall.
If you have laundry machines in a separate room, shut the door. Also try running appliances like dishwashers when you’re getting ready to leave the house for a bit. When you’re gone they can make as much noise as they want.
The EPA also is making efforts against noise pollution.
Under the Clean Air Act, the EPA administrator established the Office of Noise Abatement and Control (ONAC) to carry out investigations and studies on noise and its effect on the public health and welfare.
